“44 Uzbek Citizens Receive Life and Long-term Sentences in Iraq”

Uzbekistan’s Prosecutor General’s Office has responded to a video message from 44 female convicts currently held in Iraq’s Rosafa prison. The women are members of ISIS who served in the organisation in Syria and Iraq. They have requested help to return to their homeland. It was revealed that the women were detained by Iraqi authorities in 2017 and four of them have been given life sentences, while others received from 15-20 years. Due to poor conditions in the prison, 64 children of the convicted women were taken to Uzbekistan and placed with relatives or orphanages. Once their sentences have been served, the women will be returned to Uzbekistan.
