
45 Arrested in Turkey’s Gendarmerie Smoke Operation

The Gendarmerie General Command has recently announced a new application aimed at ensuring safety and public order, preventing crime, combating tobacco product smuggling, and protecting general health and morality.
As part of this application, inspections were carried out at monopoly dealers, buffets, grocery stores, hookah cafes, and other public entertainment venues. A total of 16,893 staff members participated in the application, supervising 19,492 workplaces simultaneously.
During the operation, 45 suspects were detained for various crimes, leading to their subsequent arrests. Additionally, 3 adults were found to be missing.
The results of the operation were significant, with law enforcement officials seizing a variety of illegal items. These included 677 liters of fake drinks, 20,492 heated tobacco products, 105 cigars, 2,563 kilograms of rolled tobacco, 12,000 cigarette filters, 21,620 electronic cigarette liquids, 170 cartridges, a shotgun, 94 grams of drugs, 49,397 medical pills, a macaron filling machine, 950 cigarette papers, 43 kilograms of loose tobacco, 27 kilograms of cigarette packs, 893 electronic cigarettes, 196,800 empty macaron containers, 146,640 full macaron containers, two pistols/blank pistols, 141 synthetic drug pills, and 20 mobile phones.
This application demonstrates the commitment of the Gendarmerie General Command to maintaining law and order, combating illegal activities, and safeguarding public health in Turkey.
