Antalya Airport to Undergo Expansion Project, Increasing Passenger Capacity to 82 Million by 2025
Antalya Airport is set to undergo a major expansion project that will significantly increase its capacity and operational capabilities. In a recent statement, it was announced that the airport, which currently provides service with two parallel runways, associated taxiways, 108 aircraft parking spaces, and domestic and international terminals with a total capacity of 35 million passengers per year, will see a substantial transformation in the coming years.
The expansion project, which is being carried out by the partnership of Fraport AG and TAV Airports Holding, is expected to reach completion in 2025. The project will be completed in three phases, with the first phase scheduled to be completed between 2022 and 2025. Upon completion, the airport’s passenger capacity will increase to 82 million passengers per year, and the number of aircraft parking positions will be expanded from 108 to 176.
In addition to the expansion of passenger terminals, the project also includes the construction of aircraft maintenance hangars, a cargo terminal, a multi-story car park, and various other facilities that will contribute to the economic and tourism development of the region. The total investment for the project is estimated to be approximately 800 million euros, with the contractor company being granted a 25-year operating rights for the airport terminals.
One notable aspect of the expansion project is the implementation of a 40-kilometer pipeline that will enable the direct transfer of aircraft fuel from the marine terminal to the airport. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and environmental pollution by removing approximately 60 thousand tankers annually from road traffic.
It is also worth noting that the construction works are being carried out without disrupting airport operations, ensuring that transportation and tourism in the region are not adversely impacted. With the completion of the expansion project, Antalya Airport is poised to become an even more vital hub for both domestic and international travel, further strengthening its position as a key player in the global aviation industry.
