75th Birthday Celebration at Budapest Airport: Franz Liszt in the Spotlight
Planning for Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport’s 75th Anniversary Celebrations Underway
As the travel season continues to thrive this year, preparations for next year are already in motion at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. According to Turizmus.com, in addition to introducing new destinations and enhancing the airport, plans are being made to celebrate a significant milestone: the airport’s 75th anniversary on May 7, 2025.
The history of Budapest Airport dates back to the 1700s when Franz Mayer, a Bavarian brewer, settled in Hungary. His son, Ferenc Xavér Mayerffy, planted vineyards on the hills between Vecsés and Rákoshegy, leading to the naming of the area Ferihegy after him. Construction of Budapest Airport began there in 1942 but was delayed due to World War II, eventually opening on May 7, 1950.
Initially known as Budapest Ferihegy International Airport, the airport will mark its 75th birthday next year. In 2011, on the 200th anniversary of Franz Liszt’s birth, the airport was renamed Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport in honor of the renowned Hungarian composer.
Just as Liszt’s music transcends borders, travel connects people worldwide. To commemorate the airport’s 75th anniversary and honor Franz Liszt, Budapest Airport is planning a series of cultural events in 2025. Additionally, it coincides with the 175th anniversary of Liszt’s famous piece, “Love dreams.”
Francois Berisot, CEO of Budapest Airport, emphasized the importance of preserving the country’s values and traditions. The airport aims to celebrate Franz Liszt’s legacy and Hungarian culture while maintaining high standards and development. Details of the anniversary events will be disclosed at a later date.
As Budapest Airport gears up for a significant milestone, the celebrations in 2025 will not only honor its history but also showcase Hungarian culture and aviation. Stay tuned for more updates from Budapest Airport on the upcoming festivities.
