76 Terrorist Caves and Shelters Destroyed in 12 Provinces
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya Announces Success of GÜRZ Operations
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya took to social media to share the recent success of the GÜRZ operations conducted in 12 provinces. In his post, Minister Yerlikaya revealed that 76 caves and shelters used by terrorists of the Separatist Terrorist Organization (BTÖ) were destroyed during the operations.
The “GÜRZ-5” operations aimed to eliminate weapons, ammunition, and explosives hidden in caves and shelters by terrorists planning attacks in rural areas during the summer months. A total of 76 caves, shelters, and shelters were demolished in the operations, with a significant amount of weapons and explosives seized:
– 102 missiles
– 132 mortar and grenade launcher ammunition
– 191 RPG-7 rocket launcher ammunition and drive cartridges
– 2,604 fuses
– 165 hand grenades
– 22 Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and their devices
– 55 machine gun anti-aircraft gun ammunition
– 2 tons 156 kg of living materials
– 8,237 units of ammunition
Minister Yerlikaya emphasized that the fight against terrorism is ongoing throughout the year, with operations conducted in both urban and rural areas. The operations were carried out under the coordination of the Counter-Terrorism Department and Intelligence Directorate of the Gendarmerie General Command, involving 315 teams comprising Gendarmerie Special Operations (JÖH), Gendarmerie Commandos, Security Guards, 3,996 Gendarmerie personnel, and J-SİHA and ATAK helicopters.
In various regions, including Şırnak, Hakkari, Kars, Siirt, Van, Diyarbakır, Erzincan, Bitlis, Muş, Tokat, Hatay, and Tunceli, a significant amount of weapons and explosives were seized. The lairs used by the terrorist organization for logistical purposes and to execute actions were identified and destroyed.
Minister Yerlikaya extended his congratulations to the gendarmerie for their heroic efforts in carrying out the operations. The nation’s prayers and support are with the security forces who tirelessly work to neutralize terrorism threats.
