79 Irregular Immigrants Rescued off the Coast of Ayvalık

The Turkish Coast Guard took swift action in response to reports of irregular immigrants in distress off the coast of Ayvalık. Two separate incidents involved rubber boats experiencing engine failure, leaving the migrants stranded at sea.

In the first incident, the Coast Guard team aboard the “KB-111” boat successfully rescued 45 immigrants, including women and children. The migrants had been drifting due to engine failure, but thanks to the prompt response of the Coast Guard, they were brought to safety.

In the second incident, a rubber boat off the coast of Ayvalık also experienced engine failure, causing the migrants on board to drift to Güneş Island. However, the Coast Guard teams were once again able to intervene, this time with the “KB-115” boat and the Coast Guard Diving Team “DEGAK-12”. They successfully rescued 34 irregular immigrants from the island.

After being brought to the Coast Guard Command on Cunda Island, the 79 immigrants received humanitarian aid, including food, beverages, medicine, and medical supplies. They were then transferred to the Provincial Immigration Administration for further assistance.

These incidents highlight the importance of having a responsive and well-equipped Coast Guard to ensure the safety and well-being of those in distress at sea. The actions of the Turkish Coast Guard undoubtedly saved the lives of these irregular immigrants and prevented potentially dangerous situations.
