8 Billion Liras Invested in Defense Industry in Earthquake Zone

Turkey’s Minister of National Defense, İsmail Demir, says that they are planning to create employment opportunities for up to 500 people in Kahramanmaraş. The investment is expected to reach 1 billion liras and to potentially increase. Currently, they are also planning the establishment of a facility for carbon fiber production in Gaziantep and investing in rocket systems in Hatay Kırıkhan. The Pavo company will also make investments in the field of informatics in the region.

Minister Demir emphasized the need to recruit the people of the region for the employment conditions. The priority will be given to earthquake victims, and even individuals who do not have prior experience will be trained for the jobs. The personnel hiring process has already begun, and the criteria will be published on the Kahramanmaraş Chamber of Commerce website. The government also has a program called the “journeymen program,” which matches people with masters to acquire more knowledge about their crafts. These individuals will be quickly integrated into the program, with a requirement of being earthquake victims and meeting similar criteria.

Minister Demir sees the potential for the production of aircraft and believes that Kahramanmaraş has the potential to roll up its sleeves and make these aircraft themselves instead of relying on imports. He is optimistic that the region has talented and qualified individuals who can acquire the necessary skills and knowledge. The government aims to gather all the investments in the region, creating a portfolio of approximately 8 billion liras.

The Minister concluded by stating that the government will work with local residents in the earthquake area to rebuild the region stronger than it was before.
