Every year, Yılmaz eagerly waits on his boat on the serene Uluabat Lake for the return of Yaren, who embarks on a 2,500-mile journey from its winter breeding grounds in sub-Saharan Africa. Despite his patience, Yılmaz admits to feeling a sense of worry when Yaren did not show up on time this year.
“I spent a week in sadness, thinking that he might have encountered danger on the way. But luckily, Yaren came back. This morning, he came to my boat and ate the fish I brought him,” Yılmaz shared with national news.
