
Academician Dismissed After Allegedly Insulting Women Wearing Headscarves

Aydın Adnan Menderes University Faculty Member Dismissed for Insulting Headscarf Wearers and AK Party
A shocking incident has occurred at Aydın Adnan Menderes University, where Assoc. Dr. MA, a faculty member, allegedly insulted headscarf wearers and the AK Party during a meeting. The incident has sparked outrage and led to disciplinary action being taken against the faculty member.
According to reports, MA insulted headscarf wearers and the AK Party during a meeting where candidates’ reports were being discussed. Following the incident, a statement was issued by those who attended the meeting, which prompted the university’s Rectorate to launch an administrative investigation into the matter. Additionally, a criminal complaint was filed with the Aydın Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
After being questioned by the police, MA denied the accusations against them. However, it was revealed that MA has been dismissed for 3 months to allow for further investigation by the university.
ADU Vice Rector Dr. Cemal Iyem spoke out about the incident, stating that MA made derogatory remarks about headscarf wearers and the AK Party during the meeting. This behavior was not tolerated, leading to MA being suspended from their position.
In response to the incident, AK Party Provincial Chairman Mehmet Erdem condemned MA for their actions. Erdem stressed that insulting individuals based on their choice to wear a headscarf or their political beliefs is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
The Adü Islamic Studies Society also condemned MA’s behavior, highlighting that Turkey is a state of law that guarantees freedom of belief and lifestyle for all individuals. The society emphasized that the headscarf is a symbol of religious belief for millions of women and should not be a basis for exclusion in academic or social settings.
