Uzbekistan to Admit Students with 75 Percent SAT Score to Universities on a Grant Basis
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has made an announcement stating that applicants who score above 75 percent on the SAT exam will now be admitted to universities on a grant basis. This initiative was discussed during a videoconference meeting held on June 28, where the president highlighted the achievements in youth policy and measures to support them comprehensively.
The SAT exam, which tests critical thinking skills in mathematics and English language, has been a gateway for Uzbek youth to study at prestigious universities abroad. Those who score above 75 percent on these tests have the opportunity to receive grants for their studies. President Mirziyoyev expressed the decision to extend this practice to admit such students to local universities on a grant basis as well.
In addition to this new admission criteria, the “International Baccalaureate” and A-level programs will be introduced in all 73 academic lyceums affiliated with universities. Graduates from these programs will be admitted to universities without the need for exams, on a paid contract basis.
The president emphasized the importance of professions related to the “fourth industrial revolution” for the rapid development of Uzbekistan. To further support this, a new system will be introduced to increase young people’s interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) related professions.
Currently, there are 110,000 Uzbek youth studying abroad, with 50 of them graduating from the top universities in the US and 24 universities in the UK through the “El-yurt umidi” Foundation. The number of young people studying at these prestigious institutions has exceeded 200, showcasing the success of Uzbek students on the international stage.
With these new initiatives in place, Uzbekistan aims to provide more opportunities for its youth to excel in their education and prepare for a successful future in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
