
Advancing Transport Connectivity for Trade and Economic Integration

A round table discussion titled “Development of Transportation and Trade and Economic Integration in Central Asia and South Caucasus” was held on April 18, 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event focused on the Ashgabat Action Program (2024–2035) and sustainable vehicles (2026–2035).
Delegates from diplomatic missions, international organizations, and media outlets attended the round table, which was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Akhmet Gurbanov, and Executive Secretary of the International Center for Transport Diplomacy, Igor Runov. In their speeches, they highlighted the importance of creating a secure international transport infrastructure for sustainable development and discussed the priorities, tasks, and practical steps for enhancing transport diplomacy.
The discussions during the round table were organized into three thematic sessions, covering topics such as the contribution of Central Asian and South Caucasus countries to UN transport goals, projects for developing landlocked countries, and upcoming events in Turkmenistan for the remainder of 2025.
Speakers emphasized Turkmenistan’s active role in promoting collaboration in transport matters on both a regional and international level. The country has been instrumental in initiating and implementing large-scale infrastructure projects in partnership with foreign allies.
Overall, the round table provided valuable insights into strengthening transport interconnectedness and fostering trade and economic integration in the region, aligning with the broader goals of sustainable development and cooperation.
