Inaugural World Robot Games to Launch in China

World Humanoid Robot Games Set to Make History in Beijing
The inaugural World Humanoid Robot Games will take place in Beijing from August 15th to 17th, bringing together cutting-edge technology and athleticism in a groundbreaking event. Competitions are slated to be held at two iconic venues: the National Stadium, also known as the "Bird’s Nest," and the National Speed Skating Oval, dubbed "Ice Ribbon." Both venues previously hosted the Olympic Games, setting a prestigious backdrop for this unique competition.
For the first time ever, humanoid robots will engage in a universal sports competition, showcasing their capabilities in 11 traditional sports. Events will include a range of track and field disciplines such as the 100 meters, 400 meters, 1500 meters, 4×100 meters relay, hurdles, long jump, and high jump. Additionally, the games will feature gymnastics and football matches in various formats, including two-on-two, three-on-three, and five-on-five team play. The primary focus of the competition will be to assess the athletic prowess of the humanoid robots, testing their coordination and teamwork skills.
Earlier this year, in April, Beijing hosted another milestone event: the world’s first half-marathon for humans and humanoid robots. To compete in this half-marathon, robots were required to have a humanoid design and the capability to move on two legs without wheeled assistance. Strict guidelines were implemented to ensure safety, including regulations to prevent damage to the track or harm to other competitors and spectators.
The winning bot from the half-marathon received a cash prize of 5,000 yuan (approximately $700), while the second and third place robots were awarded 4,000 yuan and 3,000 yuan (around $560 and $420), respectively. Several special categories also recognized achievements such as successful race completion, endurance, and creative design, with additional awards from sponsors for their development teams. Remarkably, the accolade for the winning robot was presented by another humanoid robot, highlighting the marvel of technological advancement.
As the World Humanoid Robot Games approach, excitement builds for what promises to be an incredible showcase of both innovation and competition in the realm of robotics.
