Adverse Impact of Storm and Downpour on Life in Kars
Recently, residents of Kars experienced a severe storm and downpour that wreaked havoc in the city. The heavy rain that lasted for about 20 minutes flooded the streets and avenues in the city center, causing chaos and inconvenience for many.
Citizens caught in the rain sought shelter in their workplaces, while drivers faced challenges navigating through the flooded streets. The bridge over the Kars stream connecting the Yusufpaşa and Sukapı neighborhoods was submerged in water, making it difficult for vehicles to pass through.
Faik Bey Street and İnönü Street resembled lakes, with rainwater accumulating on the roads. To cross the flooded areas, citizens had to improvise by using wood and other materials to protect themselves from the water.
Unfortunately, the storm had tragic consequences as well. Two cows in the Paşaçayır Neighborhood died after being electrocuted by wires that broke off an electric pole during the strong winds and heavy rain. Additionally, a tree was uprooted and fell on Halit Paşa Street, although luckily, no vehicles or pedestrians were present at the time of the incident.
Yusufpaşa Neighborhood Headman, Ferit Koç, promptly informed municipal authorities about the fallen tree and requested its removal. Response teams arrived at the scene to cut the tree into pieces and clear the road for traffic.
In light of these events, authorities have issued warnings to citizens to exercise caution during storms and heavy rainfall. It is essential for everyone to stay informed and prepared to minimize risks and ensure their safety in such adverse weather conditions.
