Afghanistan to Boost Oil Production in Amu Darya Basin with 25 New Wells
Afghanistan is embarking on a plan to increase oil production in the Amu Darya Basin by drilling 25 new wells, with the goal of raising daily output to 3,000 tons. Currently, the basin is home to 24 active wells that produce an average of 1,300 tons of oil per day, all of which is refined within the country to meet local demand for petroleum products.
Despite these efforts, Afghanistan still relies heavily on imports to fulfill its oil needs, with internal resources only meeting 10% of the demand. To support the expansion of the oil industry, Afghan authorities are actively seeking international investment and are planning to procure additional drilling equipment from foreign suppliers, according to industry experts.
This move towards increasing oil production in the Amu Darya Basin marks a significant step for Afghanistan in its quest for energy independence and economic growth. With the additional wells and investment, the country aims to reduce its reliance on oil imports and boost its domestic oil production capacity.
