Meteorology Warns of Increased Risk of Agricultural Frost in Turkey
The recent drop in temperatures and snowfall in various parts of Turkey has led to an increase in the risk of agricultural frost, especially on Monday evening and Tuesday morning. Farmers and producers have been advised to take extra precautions to protect their crops.
Between the 10th and 13th of April, many cities experienced agricultural frost as temperatures plummeted below seasonal norms. This has had a detrimental impact on crops such as grapes, apricots, apples, and other fruit trees that were in the flowering stage. The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued warnings for snowfall and frost in the coming days.
Regions expected to be most affected by agricultural frost include Kütahya, Afyonkarahisar, and the inner parts of the Western Black Sea. The risk is particularly high in these areas from Monday evening onwards. Farmers and those involved in agricultural activities have been urged to exercise caution.
In addition, the Ankara Governorate has also issued warnings about the ongoing risk of agricultural frost, advising producers and citizens to be vigilant.
Furthermore, snowfall is forecasted to impact the southeast of Eastern Anatolia from Monday evening to Tuesday night. Hakkâri, Van, Bitlis, Siirt, Sirnak, Erzurum, Bayburt, Erzincan, and Kars are all expected to experience heavy snowfall.
The damage caused by agricultural frost has already been felt in Samsun, where hazelnut and walnut trees, as well as strawberry gardens, have been affected. It is crucial for farmers and producers across the country to take necessary measures to protect their crops from the impending weather conditions.
