Aigul Japarova Attends European Leaders’ Spouses Summit
Kyrgyzstan’s First Lady Aigul Japarova attended the Summit of the Spouses of European Leaders and launch of the Network on the Prevention of Childhood Obesity in the European Region of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Zagreb, Croatia. In her speech, Japarova stressed the importance of establishing the Childhood Obesity Prevention Network in the WHO European Region as there is a significant problem of obesity among children in Kyrgyzstan and the world. Kyrgyzstan has taken measures to prevent childhood obesity, including breastfeeding for at least six months, promoting a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition skills among the population, and implementing state programs to organise improved nutrition for students of primary grades. Japarova expressed confidence that the summit, as a platform for the exchange of best practices in the prevention of obesity among children, will bring positive results. The Zagreb Declaration was adopted as a result of the summit.
