
Aigul Japarova Explores Harbin Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival

Bishkek – On February 8, 2025, the First Lady of Kyrgyzstan, Aigul Japarova, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to the Kyrgyz Republic, Liu Jiangping, visited the Harbin Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival.
During their visit, the president’s wife was given a tour of the “Big World of Ice and Snow” Festival, as well as the central Ala-Too square which was built entirely of ice.
The Harbin Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival is an international event showcasing ice and snow sculptures from 42 countries and three regions that are members of the Olympic Council of Asia. This festival, held in Harbin, China since 1963, is considered the largest of its kind in the world, featuring intricate ice sculptures illuminated by colorful lights.
The festival kicks off in late December and runs until the end of February, with sculptures created using ice blocks harvested from the local Songhua River. In addition to the stunning sculptures, the festival also offers traditional winter activities such as skiing, skating, snow slides, and more.
Both Aigul Japarova and Liu Jiangping were impressed by the artistry and grandeur of the festival, as they marveled at the skill and creativity of the sculptors. The visit served to strengthen cultural ties between Kyrgyzstan and China, showcasing the beauty and creativity of both nations.
