Airline Passenger Traffic Increases by 53.7 Percent, Setting New Record

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu recently announced the latest airline aircraft, passenger, and cargo statistics for April 2024 from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ).

According to Minister Uraloğlu, in April, the number of aircraft taking off and landing at airports reached 74,591 on domestic lines and 63,727 on international lines, totaling to 178,614 including overpasses. This marks a 28.0 percent increase in total aircraft traffic compared to April of the previous year. Additionally, domestic passenger traffic reached 8,244,590 while international passenger traffic reached 9,715,111, totaling to 17,973,101 passengers, including direct transit passengers. This reflects a 52.9 percent increase in domestic passenger traffic and a record-breaking 53.7 percent increase in total passenger traffic.

Furthermore, airports in Turkey saw freight traffic reaching 72,269 tons on domestic lines and 300,161 tons on international lines in April, totaling to 372,430 tons.

In the first four months of 2024, the total number of aircraft landing and taking off from airports reached 270,495 on domestic lines and 221,040 on international lines, with a total of 653,472 aircraft traffic including overpasses. Passenger traffic during this period amounted to 61,879,094, with 23.1 percent increase in domestic lines and 24.4 percent increase in international lines.

Specifically at Istanbul Airport, there was a 48 percent increase in passenger traffic in April, reaching a total of 6,591,527 passengers. In the first four months, the airport served a total of 24,263,498 passengers.

Moreover, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport also saw a significant increase in passenger traffic, with a record-breaking 59 percent increase in total passenger traffic in April.
