Akiko Fujii Appointed as New Permanent Representative of UNDP in Uzbekistan
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has recently announced the appointment of Akiko Fujii as the new Permanent Representative in Uzbekistan. With over 25 years of experience working with UNDP in various leadership roles across the globe, Fujii brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new position.
Prior to her assignment in Uzbekistan, Fujii served as the Permanent Representative in the Maldives and as Deputy Permanent Representative in Vietnam. She also held leadership positions at the Multi-Country Office in Fiji, which covered several Pacific Island nations, as well as in Jamaica.
According to the UNDP press service in Uzbekistan, Fujii has actively engaged in addressing economic and social issues related to climate change, managing humanitarian aid in crisis and conflict situations, and advising on governance systems to promote equitable and sustainable human development. Her extensive experience makes her well-equipped to lead UNDP’s efforts in Uzbekistan.
Fujii holds master’s degrees in Gender and Development from the University of Sussex in the UK and in Human and Environmental Studies from Kyoto University in Japan. Her educational background, coupled with her practical experience, positions her as a valuable asset to UNDP’s work in promoting development and progress in Uzbekistan.
