AKSUNGUR Achieves New Record with Domestic Engine

AKSUNGUR Sets New Flight Record with TEI-PD170 National Engine

The AKSUNGUR, a twin-engine UAV developed by the Turkish Aerospace Industry (TAI), has set a new flight record by completing a 41-hour flight with its TEI-PD170 engine. This achievement breaks the previous record of 35 hours and marks a significant milestone for the national aviation industry.

Following the successful 35-hour flight record of the AKSUNGUR UAV with the TEI-PD170 engine, the first flight test of the Bayraktar TB3 was also completed using the same engine. This further demonstrates the capabilities of the TEI-PD170, which powers platforms such as ANKA and AKSUNGUR. The TB3, developed by Baykar, is the latest user of the TEI-PD170 engine.

The TEI-PD170 Turbodiesel Aviation Engine is a result of a project supported by the Presidency of Defense Industries to develop Turkey’s first domestic and national aviation engine. It is designed to meet the power needs of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) class unmanned aerial vehicles, particularly TAI’s ANKA platform. The engine has the capacity to produce 172 HP (±2) power and boasts altitude capabilities and fuel consumption rates that exceed those of its competitors. With a two-stage serial turbocharger system, the TEI-PD170 engine can operate with JP-8 or Jet-A1 fuels and has a dry weight of 162 kg. It also features a Redundant Engine Control System and is capable of reaching a ceiling height of 45,000 ft.

The successful completion of the 41-hour flight by the AKSUNGUR with the TEI-PD170 engine is a testament to the advancements made in Turkey’s national aviation industry. With the ongoing development and integration of national engines into UAV platforms, Turkey continues to strengthen its position as a key player in the global defense industry.
