Akylbek Japarov Commences Titanomagnetite Development at Kyzyl-Ompol
Development of the largest titanomagnetite deposit, Kyzyl-Ompol, has officially begun in the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan. The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported that the extraction of titanomagnetite, a valuable mineral used in various industries such as medicine, aviation, and astronautics, is now underway.
The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Akylbek Japarov, was present at the ceremony laying of the capsule to mark the beginning of this significant development. He highlighted the potential economic benefits of this project, stating that it will boost the country’s economy, increase exports, and create new job opportunities for the local population.
Moreover, Japarov assured that the development will strictly adhere to environmental standards. He emphasized the safe transportation of elements such as uranium and thorium to designated locations that meet international safety standards.
During his visit to the region, Japarov also inspected the construction of a small hydropower station on the Orto-Tokoi reservoir. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the delays in the repair of the Balykchi-Barskoon road and instructed authorities to expedite the repair work.
It is worth mentioning that President Sadyr Japarov recently signed a law amending certain legislative acts to allow for the development of uranium and thorium deposits in Kyrgyzstan. This decision comes after public protests in 2019 led to the revocation of a uranium development license and the subsequent passing of a law prohibiting the exploration and development of uranium and thorium deposits in the country.
Overall, the development of the Kyzyl-Ompol titanomagnetite deposit marks a significant step towards harnessing Kyrgyzstan’s natural resources for economic growth while prioritizing environmental protection and safety standards.
