Akylbek Japarov Installs Capsule at Small Papan HPS Construction Site

Bishkek – On a recent working visit to the Osh region, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, participated in the laying of a capsule at the construction site of a small Papan hydropower station (HPS).

Located on the Ak-Buura River, which supplies water to Osh at the foot of the sacred Sulaiman-Too mountain, the hydropower station is a significant project for the region. Japarov highlighted the strength and inspiration drawn from the river, named after the powerful buura camel, which has been a source of poetry and influence for the people of Kyrgyzstan.

With a capacity of 25 megawatts, the small hydropower plant being constructed on Papan reservoir is expected to generate an average of 103 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. The total investment for the project amounts to $27 million, marking a significant investment in the country’s power industry.

Japarov emphasized the importance of the project in contributing to the energy independence of Kyrgyzstan, following the recent commissioning of other hydropower plants in the region. The construction of the plant on Papan reservoir, situated in the Papan gorge, represents a strategic move towards sustainable energy production in the country.

The Papan reservoir, where the hydropower plant is being built, has been a focal point for energy development since its construction began in 1979 and was completed in 1985. The region’s commitment to harnessing its natural resources for the benefit of its people underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring a prosperous future for Kyrgyzstan.
