VI Meeting of Central Asia-China Foreign Ministers Kicks Off in Almaty

Bishkek, April 26, 2025 — The VI Meeting of Foreign Ministers in the Central Asia-China format has officially commenced in Almaty, as reported by the press service of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This pivotal gathering aims to address critical issues concerning the enhancement of political dialogue, the expansion of trade and economic cooperation, the development of transport connectivity, joint efforts against modern challenges, and the promotion of sustainable development and environmental security across the region.

Murat Nurtleu, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, underscored the significance of Kazakhstan’s full-scale interaction with China, which stands as a key investment partner. This engagement is deemed a top priority for both Kazakhstan and other Central Asian nations.

"China is our strategic partner, a relationship built on mutual trust and resilience against external circumstances," Nurtleu stated. He highlighted the potential of integrating the resources of Central Asian states with China’s vast capabilities to foster mutual interests and robust partnerships in a rapidly evolving regional landscape.

Reflecting on past successes, Nurtleu recalled the historic first Central Asia-China summit held in Xi’an in 2023, where national leaders established a clear path for future cooperation in trade, transportation, logistics, education, science, and more.

In a noteworthy development, trade turnover between Central Asian nations and China reached an unprecedented $95 billion in 2024, signaling the strength and potential of this partnership.

As discussions unfold in Almaty, the collective focus remains on enhancing collaboration for a more prosperous and secure future in the region.
