Announcement of Penalty for Nevşin Mengü
The penalty requested for Nevşin Mengü has been announced
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has prepared an indictment regarding Nevşin Mengü, a prominent figure in the media. It has been stated in the indictment that Mengü publicly shared an interview with Salih Müslim, the leader of the PYD/YPG terrorist organization, on his social media account. Salih Müslim is a wanted figure with a red notice issued against him.
The indictment mentions that Mengü intentionally spread Müslim’s words to legitimize and promote the separatist activities of the organization. It is also noted that the statements made by Müslim justified the organization’s methods involving force, violence, or threats, and Mengü propagated these methods through her actions.
The video of the interview was viewed by thousands of people, and therefore, Mengü’s actions are being considered as “making propaganda for a terrorist organization”. The indictment requests a sentence of imprisonment ranging from 1 year and 6 months to 7 years and 6 months for this crime.
Additionally, it is mentioned in the indictment that a judicial control decision was previously issued against Mengü for “praising the crime and the criminal”. However, it is clarified that Mengü, who works as a presenter, did not make any statements praising a crime or a person involved in criminal activities.
The legal process regarding Nevşin Mengü’s alleged crimes will continue as per the Turkish law. It is a critical case that raises questions about freedom of speech, journalism ethics, and the responsibility of media professionals. As the case unfolds, more details are expected to come to light.
