Antalya Beach Tragedy: Dolphin Found Dead on Shore – Latest News from Turkey

A dead dolphin found on the beach in Beldibi District of Kemer

A sad discovery was made by hotel employees in the Beldibi District of Kemer when they found a dead dolphin washed ashore on the beach around 9:00 in the morning. The General Manager of the hotel, Şinasi Gürocak, was promptly informed and he quickly notified the Kemer Municipality and the District Coast Guard Command.

Upon receiving the notification, the Kemer Municipality teams arrived at the scene and retrieved the dead dolphin, which was approximately 4.5 meters in length and weighed around 500 kilos. It was later identified by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gökoğlu, a faculty member at the Akdeniz University Faculty of Fisheries, as a gray dolphin (Grampus griseus) – a species that has been seen before in the Mediterranean.

The finding of the dead dolphin serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting marine life and the need for conservation efforts to ensure the well-being of these majestic creatures. It is hoped that this incident will raise awareness about the threats faced by dolphins and other marine animals, and encourage action to safeguard their habitats and prevent such unfortunate events in the future.
