Anti-Corruption Agency Probes Nepotism in UzAuto Motors’ 1.3 Billion UZS Tender
State Procurement Scandal Involving Close Relatives Uncovered
A recent state procurement for supplying parts for the front doors of cars has come under scrutiny after it was revealed that two companies belonging to close relatives were involved in the bidding process. The Anti-Corruption Agency confirmed this information and has referred the case to the prosecutor’s office for further investigation.
The procurement, valued at 1.3 billion UZS, was conducted by UzAuto Motors JSC on July 8, 2024. According to reports from the “Revisor” Telegram channel, companies connected to individuals with possible familial ties participated in the tender and were ultimately declared the winner and backup winner.
The Anti-Corruption Agency found that the procurement commission overseeing the process had violated several requirements of the “State Procurement Law.” As a result, they have recommended that the customer cancel the procurement results and take appropriate action.
An official statement from the Agency stated, “The documents collected during the investigation have been forwarded to law enforcement agencies for legal action against the individuals responsible for the misconduct.”
It was revealed that “Eko Tsem Komplekt Oborudovanie” LLC was selected as the winner of the tender with a bid of 1.3 billion UZS, while “Eko Lit Metall” LLC was named the backup winner. Interestingly, it was discovered that the backup winner, “Eko Lit Metall,” is solely founded by Anvarjon Mutalipov, who may have previously held a stake in the winning company.
The winner, “Eko Tsem Komplekt Oborudovanie” LLC, is led by Feruza Askarova and directed by Abdurahim Askarov. Social media profiles of these individuals suggest that they may be close relatives, a fact that the Anti-Corruption Agency has confirmed.
The investigation into this state procurement scandal is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the extent of any wrongdoing. As more details come to light, the public is eager to see justice served and accountability upheld in the handling of state funds.
