Antonio Guterres Attends Opening of New UN Office Building in Ashgabat
On July 6, 2024, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, visited Turkmenistan and took part in the opening ceremony of the new building for the UN Office in Ashgabat. The event was attended by various government officials, university rectors, UN mission staff in Turkmenistan, and members of the media.
During the ceremony, Guterres expressed his gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the Government of Turkmenistan for their support and assistance to the UN over the years. He also emphasized his confidence in the continued dynamic development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN on various priority issues.
Turkmenistan sees the UN and its specialized agencies as crucial pillars of global interaction and peacekeeping efforts. The country’s commitment to over 90 international conventions serves as a strong foundation for long-term partnerships in joint projects and programs.
By actively participating in finding solutions to current global challenges, Turkmenistan is making a significant contribution to promoting peace, mutual respect, global security, stability, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
