UBP General Secretary Responds to CTP Statements
Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, the General Secretary of the National Unity Party (UBP), has spoken out against statements made by Asım Akansoy, the General Secretary of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP). Hasipoğlu expressed regret over Akansoy’s comments regarding President Ersin Tatar.
In a written statement, Hasipoğlu emphasized that President Tatar, who was elected by the Turkish Cypriot people and advocates for a two-state solution, plays a crucial role as negotiator for the Turkish Cypriot people. He criticized Akansoy’s comments as lacking in purpose and potentially harmful to the negotiation process.
Hasipoğlu argued that Akansoy’s statements could give the Greek Cypriot leader an advantage and create the perception that the Turkish Cypriot leader is willing to negotiate on unfavorable terms.
