Arıklı: July 15 – A Pivotal Moment in Our History
Erhan Arıklı, the Minister of Public Works and Transport and Chairman of the Rebirth Party (YDP), has emphasized the significance of July 15 in the history of Turkey. In a message commemorating the 7th anniversary of the coup attempt in Turkey, Arıklı highlighted the importance of this date for both Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot people.
Arıklı stated that July 15 holds two separate historical milestones. Firstly, on July 15, 1974, the Greek coup plotters initiated a coup, which ultimately led to the 1974 Peace Operation. This operation, supported by Turkey’s right of guarantorship, not only prevented Enosis but also saved the Turkish Cypriots from a potential massacre.
Furthermore, on July 15, 2016, FETO (Fethullahist Terrorist Organization) coup plotters attempted to stage a coup with the backing of imperialist powers. Their goal was to bring Turkey under the control of these external forces. However, thanks to the brave resistance of the Turkish people, this attempt was ultimately thwarted. Arıklı emphasized that following this coup, Turkey began to lay the foundations of a stronger and more independent nation.
Arıklı concluded his message by condemning both coup attempts and expressed admiration for the resilience and greatness of the Turkish nation.
