The court hearings on the criminal case against citizens of the Republic of Armenia, including Arayik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, Davit Babayan, Lyova Mnatsakanyan, and others, who are accused of crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, acts of genocide, and terrorism as a result of Armenia’s military aggression, were continued on April 21 at the Baku Military Court.
The hearings, presided over by Judge Zeynal Aghayev and a panel of judges, included questioning of the accused individuals by prosecutors regarding the Khojaly genocide that took place in February 1992.
During the court session, some of the accused persons, including Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, and Davit Babayan, provided their responses to questions posed by the prosecutors. They condemned the killing of civilians and expressed their disapproval of such violent acts.
The court also examined a report document by the “Memorial” Human Rights Center documenting the mass violations of human rights during the occupation of Khojaly in 1992. The document highlighted the organized mass killings of the population and violations of human rights by Armenian military personnel.
The trial will continue on April 24, with a total of 15 Armenian nationals facing charges of various crimes related to their involvement in the conflict in Azerbaijan.
The accused individuals are being charged under multiple articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including planning and waging a war of aggression, genocide, terrorism, financing of terrorism, and other criminal acts committed during the conflict.
The ongoing trial aims to bring justice to the victims of war crimes and hold the accused accountable for their actions during the conflict.
