Armenia to Tighten Penalties for Evading Military Service
Armenia is taking steps to crack down on individuals who try to avoid military service and training gatherings by proposing stricter penalties. The government has approved a draft of amendments to the Criminal Code aimed at increasing the punishment for these offenses.
Under the proposed changes, the imprisonment term for evading conscription would be raised from 2-5 years to 3-6 years. Similarly, the penalty for skipping training gatherings would be increased from a maximum of 2 years to 1-3 years. These measures are intended to ensure that all eligible individuals fulfill their obligations to the country’s defense forces.
The bill, which was prepared by the Ministry of Justice, will now be presented to the parliament for further consideration. By tightening the penalties for evading military service, Armenia is signaling its commitment to upholding the integrity of its armed forces and ensuring that all citizens contribute to national security.
