Armenian Davit Ishkhanyan Confesses to Receiving Award for Battling Azerbaijani Army – Court
The trial of Armenian citizens accused of crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, and other offenses related to Armenia’s military aggression against Azerbaijan continued on April 3. The accused individuals, including Arayik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Gukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, and others, appeared before the Baku Military Court for an open hearing.
During the session, each accused person was provided with interpreters and defense lawyers. Prosecutors, victims, legal heirs, and representatives also participated in the hearing. The state prosecution directed questions to Davit Ishkhanyan, who admitted to holding various positions within the illegal regime established in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, including serving as a “battalion commander” and “parliament speaker.”
Ishkhanyan confessed to participating in the war against Azerbaijan as a member of the Dashnaktsutyun party and acknowledged his role in the conflict. He also revealed details about the management of the illegal regime’s army and his interactions with other high-ranking officials.
The court process delved into Ishkhanyan’s involvement in the war, his possession of weapons and ammunition, and his communications with foreign leaders urging pressure on Azerbaijan. The accused individual claimed his actions were in line with the strategic goal of annexing Karabakh to Armenia.
Despite his birth certificate indicating he was born in the Azerbaijan SSR, Ishkhanyan emphasized that he is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia. The next court session is scheduled for April 4 to further examine the case and hear additional testimonies.
