Armenian Landmines Pose Serious Threat: Ombudsman’s Office Warns
Landmines planted by Armenian forces during and after the occupation of Azerbaijani territories continue to pose a serious threat to innocent lives, the Azerbaijani Ombudsman’s Office has warned. Since 1991, over 3,400 people have fallen victim to these mines, with 359 being children and 38 being women.
The Ombudsman’s Office emphasized that these numbers highlight the grave consequences of the landmine issue, which not only hinders the path to a just and sustainable peace in the region but also results in severe violations of basic human rights.
The presence of these deadly mines in liberated territories underscores the urgent need for thorough demining efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals in the affected areas. The Azerbaijani government, along with international organizations, must work together to address this pressing issue and prevent further loss of life due to landmines.
