Armenian Troops Refuse to Participate in Russian-Led Military Exercises Amid Strained Relations
U.S. President Joe Biden Hosts Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy at the White House
On September 26, U.S. President Joe Biden welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to the White House after announcing billions in military aid for Kyiv. Biden reiterated his support for Ukraine, insisting that Russia “will not prevail” in its invasion.
During the meeting, Zelenskiy presented Biden with his “victory plan” and once again requested that the United States lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons provided to strike deep inside Russia at military targets.
“We deeply appreciate that Ukraine and America have stood side by side,” Zelenskiy expressed his gratitude, dressed in a military-style outfit.
Vice President Kamala Harris also met with Zelenskiy at the White House and affirmed her unwavering support for the people of Ukraine in their fight against Russian aggression.
Harris condemned calls for Ukraine to cede territory to Russia, stating that they were “dangerous and unacceptable.” She criticized proposals for surrender made by Republican candidate Donald Trump and Senator J.D. Vance, emphasizing the importance of standing firm against Russia’s aggression.
Earlier on September 26, Biden announced over $8 billion in military aid for Ukraine, including the provision of the Joint Standoff Weapon system, additional Patriot air-defense systems, and AMRAAMs. The training for Ukrainian F-16 pilots in the U.S. will also be expanded.
In addition to military aid, Biden mentioned efforts to disrupt a global cryptocurrency network used by Russia to evade sanctions and launder money. He also called for a top-level meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Germany to better coordinate support for Ukraine.
Zelenskiy expressed his gratitude to Biden and the American people for the announced military aid. He is seeking to strengthen support for Ukraine’s defense efforts ahead of the U.S. presidential election.
As diplomatic efforts continue, Ukraine faced Russian attacks on September 25 and 26, resulting in casualties and destruction in several regions. Despite the ongoing conflict, Zelenskiy remains determined to execute his “victory plan” to end the conflict and protect Ukraine’s sovereignty.
