President Joe Biden has signed a long-delayed military aid package that will see U.S. military aid flowing again to Ukraine in the next few hours. The aid bill was passed by the Senate and signed by President Biden on April 24, marking a significant show of support for Ukraine in its battle against invading Russian forces.

Speaking from the White House, President Biden emphasized the importance of the aid package in demonstrating full support for Ukraine and standing up against Russian President Vladimir Putin. The package includes air defense munitions, artillery, rocket systems, and armored vehicles that will be sent to Ukraine immediately.

The legislation, which provides $61 billion for Ukraine, $26 billion for Israel, and $8.12 billion to counter communist China in the Indo-Pacific, also includes measures to ban the social media app TikTok, transfer seized Russian assets to Ukraine, and impose new sanctions on Iran.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer hailed the passage of the aid package as a critical measure to protect American security and Western democracy. He urged his colleagues to pass the legislation as Kyiv struggles to defend its territory amid a shortage of weapons and ammunition.

Despite some opposition from Republicans, the aid package was approved, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressing gratitude to the United States Senate for the support. As Ukraine prepares to receive additional military aid from its allies, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu warned of expanding aerial bombardment on Ukrainian storage bases housing Western-supplied weapons.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has resulted in significant human casualties and extensive damage to the country’s infrastructure. The aid package approved by Congress underscores a unified commitment to supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression and ensuring stability in the region.
