Landslide Disrupts Traffic in Artvin After Recent Rainfall
Recent rainfall in Artvin has caused significant disruptions, including a major landslide that obstructed a key roadway. Approximately 31 kilometers of the road were covered with broken rocks and soil, creating hazardous conditions and forcing authorities to close access to the area.
Witnesses reported a dense cloud of dust clouding the vicinity as debris fell onto the road. In response, highways and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to assess the situation and implement safety measures. Following their efforts, the road was temporarily reopened, allowing limited access through a single lane.
However, the situation worsened in the evening when additional landslides occurred in the same area. As transportation was being managed on a single-lane basis, the road was once again closed to all traffic due to ongoing rock and soil movement.
Authorities indicated that the ongoing landslides complicated rescue efforts, preventing crews from fully clearing the road. As a precaution, drivers were rerouted to an alternative path via the Ardanuç-Ardahan road, where safety measures were enforced.
