ASCO Sells Nearly 700 Passenger E-Tickets in Q1

Increase in Ferry Passenger Flow in Azerbaijan

In the first quarter of this year, the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) reported a total passenger flow of 5,882 people on its ferries. This figure highlights a growing interest in maritime travel within the region, especially as restrictions ease.

According to ASCO, 670 tickets were booked during this period through their electronic booking system. The initiative aims to streamline the booking process for travelers and improve accessibility. The busiest route was the Alat–Kuryk route, with 517 tickets sold, followed by the Kuryk–Alat route with 87 tickets, and Alat–Turkmenbashi with 57. Only 9 tickets were sold for the Turkmenbashi–Alat route.

ASCO’s e-ticketing system has been active since 2016, enhancing convenience for passengers and adapting to modern travel needs.

However, due to ongoing quarantine regulations, Azerbaijani citizens wishing to leave the country by ferry still need special permission from the Operational Headquarters under the Cabinet of Ministers. In contrast, foreign citizens can exit Azerbaijan without securing such a permit, although they must have proper documentation to enter the country.

These developments highlight both the potential growth in ferry travel within Azerbaijan and the ongoing regulatory framework affecting international movement.
