Turkey Develops ASELFLIR-500 System After Camera Embargo During Karabakh War
During the Karabakh War, an embargo was imposed on the cameras used by Turkish UAVs, which had a significant impact on the course of the conflict. In response to this embargo, Turkey developed the ASELFLIR-500 system, which is considered to be the best in its class.
The newly developed ASELFLIR-500 system was initially exported to Azerbaijan. This system, which was designed and produced in just 3 years after Canada’s restriction decision, stands out for its advanced features.
ASELFLIR-500 incorporates the world’s most advanced electro-optical sensor systems and serves as a reconnaissance, surveillance, and targeting system. It is compatible with fixed-wing and rotary-wing aerial platforms, including unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters, and airplanes. The system features a high-resolution infrared camera with a resolution of 3 to 5 micrometers.
In addition to its infrared capabilities, ASELFLIR-500 also includes a high-resolution SWIRR camera, a 3rd generation thermal imaging system designed for detecting, identifying, and diagnosing threats from long distances. The system is equipped with features such as a high-resolution day vision camera, laser target marking, measuring, and point tracking.
Produced by ASELSAN, the ASELFLIR-500 system is a key example of the efforts to nationalize the Turkish defense industry. It is expected to play a significant role in the export of defense industry products.
This development marks a significant advancement in Turkey’s defense capabilities and underscores the country’s commitment to enhancing its national security. With the ASELFLIR-500 system, Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles have gained superior surveillance and targeting capabilities, positioning Turkey as a key player in the defense industry.
