Ashgabat Hosts Youth Climate Change Conference
The Government of Turkmenistan, in collaboration with various international entities, recently organized the final National Youth Conference on Climate Change in Ashgabat. The conference, held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together over 700 young participants from across the region to discuss environmental issues and youth involvement in climate action.
Distinguished guests, including ambassadors and representatives from the UNDP, UNICEF, FAO, the European Union, and others, attended the event. The conference aimed to raise awareness among the youth about climate change and its impact on socio-economic development, environmental sustainability, and biodiversity. It also focused on developing innovative solutions for climate change adaptation and mitigation.
In addition to the main conference in Ashgabat, regional meetings were held in various cities in Turkmenistan to engage with more young people. These meetings provided a platform for young SDG ambassadors and environmental activists to exchange ideas and showcase their projects.
The conference included sessions where experts and facilitators led discussions on environmental challenges and possible solutions. Participants worked in groups to develop proposals for the Turkmenistan Youth Statement, which will be presented at upcoming international climate conferences.
The Youth Conference on Climate Change in Ashgabat served as an important platform for empowering young people in Turkmenistan to participate in addressing environmental challenges. The resulting Youth Climate Statement will reflect the collective vision of Turkmen youth and contribute to the global mission of combating climate change.
