AIIB Affirms Commitment to Strengthen Cooperation with Kazakhstan for Sustainable Infrastructure Development
ASTANA — The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has reiterated its commitment to expanding and strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan to promote sustainable infrastructure development. This affirmation was made during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Nurlan Baibazarov and AIIB Vice President Konstantin Limitovskiy on Sept. 19 in Astana, as reported by the Prime Minister’s press service.
Baibazarov, who also serves as the AIIB governor, signed a joint declaration with Limitovskiy expressing the intent to develop a three-year investment plan that identifies potential sectors and projects for financing. In his statement, Baibazarov emphasized the opportunities for further collaboration with the AIIB, highlighting the major projects that Kazakhstan is currently offering for investment by international financial institutions and private investors.
The agreement between the two parties focuses on promoting green infrastructure, connectivity, and regional cooperation. It also stresses the importance of advancing technology-enabled infrastructure, mobilizing private capital, and creating an environment conducive to private sector participation.
Limitovskiy acknowledged Kazakhstan’s significant role as a founding member of the AIIB, recognizing the country’s contributions to the bank’s establishment and growth. He stated that AIIB looks forward to supporting the successful implementation of Kazakhstan’s national development plan until 2029 and assisting the country in achieving its decarbonization goals to reach net-zero emissions by 2060.
The partnership between the AIIB and Kazakhstan highlights the mutual commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and sets the stage for enhanced cooperation in the years to come. Both parties are optimistic about the potential for collaboration in advancing infrastructure projects that will benefit the people of Kazakhstan and promote economic growth in the region.
