Assembly Turns Focus to Cyber Security in This Week’s Agenda

The Turkish Grand National Assembly is set to begin its General Assembly and Commission works this week, starting on Tuesday. Among the various proposals to be discussed, one of the key topics will be the regulations in the industry and trade sectors, including amendments to laws related to scientific and technological research.

One of the proposals includes hefty fines for individuals or entities found to be in violation of product standards or engaging in regulatory misconduct. The fines range from 12,020 to 482,204 pounds. Additionally, penalties for non-compliance with measurement and adjustment regulations will result in fines ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 pounds.

Moreover, a new law is being introduced to provide scholarship loans to higher education students, as part of efforts to support the education and success of young people.

In terms of cybersecurity, a new proposal for a Cyber Security Law will be discussed in the General Assembly. The proposal aims to establish a Cyber Security Board, comprising high-ranking officials, to prioritize the use of domestic and national products in cybersecurity measures. Anyone found guilty of cyber attacks on Turkish entities may face imprisonment ranging from 8 to 12 years.

Apart from the General Assembly activities, various commissions will convene this week to address specific issues. These include the establishment of a research commission on a recent hotel fire, as well as discussions on artificial intelligence policies and human rights investigations.

Additionally, political party group meetings will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, where party leaders will address various topics on the parliamentary agenda. Stay tuned for more updates as the proceedings unfold. (Source: DHA)
