Astana to Host International Denis Ten Memorial Tournament

ASTANA – The Kazakh capital is set to host the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge 2024, the fifth international figure skating tournament, at the Barys Arena from October 3 to 5. This tournament serves as a tribute to Denis Ten, a beloved Kazakh figure skater who tragically passed away in July 2018.

Over 120 athletes from 31 countries are expected to participate in the event, showcasing their talents in categories such as single skating and ice dancing for both adults and juniors. Among the notable participants are Kazakh skater Dias Zhirenbayev, Italy’s Daniel Grassl, Georgia’s Anastasia Gubanova, American Starr Andrews, Canada’s Alexa Rakic, and South Korea’s Ye Kuan and Hannah Lim.

The Denis Ten Memorial Challenge 2024 will not only feature fierce competition but also a touch of elegance and artistry, with an award ceremony and gala show scheduled for October 5. Representatives from figure skating federations in Germany, Georgia, and Canada will also be in attendance as invited guests.

Denis Ten made history as the first skater from Kazakhstan to win medals at prestigious events such as the Olympic Games and World Championships. His legacy lives on through the Denis Ten Foundation, which was established in August 2018 with the aim of supporting figure skating in Kazakhstan, a cause that was close to Ten’s heart.

Organized by the Denis Ten Foundation Public Foundation and sponsored by Samruk Kazyna JSC, the Denis Ten Memorial Challenge 2024 has received support from the Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Astana’s akimat (city administration), and the SportQory Sports Support Fund. This event promises to be a celebration of talent, sportsmanship, and the enduring memory of a true figure skating legend.
