Authorities Deny Deliberate Explosion at M25 Site to Halt Gas Leak

The Surkhandarya regional government has dismissed rumors of an impending explosion at the M25 gas field in Boysun, where hydrogen sulfide gas leaks persist. The local administration released a statement denying the claims and advising the public against believing or spreading false information.

“Reports circulating on various Telegram channels about a planned controlled explosion to stop the gas leakage at the M25 field are unfounded. There are currently no such measures in the works,” the statement clarified.

Authorities also warned of the legal repercussions of spreading panic through unfounded and unverified news.

The M25 gas field has been a source of concern since a major industrial accident occurred on September 1. While the leak was temporarily controlled by September 15, a subsequent incident on September 17 claimed the lives of four workers and injured 11 others. The ongoing release of hydrogen sulfide gas remains a threat to public health in the area.

Earlier this month, Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamahmudov addressed the situation, mentioning that efforts to contain the leak were nearing completion. He indicated that only 2-3 days of preparatory work were left. However, the minister also acknowledged the potential for alternative measures, which could take two to three months to implement if the current plan fails.

An investigation into the accidents is ongoing, with the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Ecology, and the Industrial Safety Inspectorate involved. No findings have been released by these authorities as of yet.
