Authorities Issue Warning to Gas Stations Over Unjustified Fuel Price Hikes

The Committee for the Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights in Uzbekistan is cracking down on price monitoring at automobile gas-filling compressor stations. The aim of this initiative is to detect any unjustified fuel price increases and to prevent potential anti-competitive agreements between gas stations.
This monitoring activity is being carried out in all regions of the country following recent changes in fuel excise tax rates that came into effect on April 1st of this year. These changes were implemented under the law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Adoption of the Main Guidelines for Tax and Budget Policy for 2025”, which was dated December 24, 2024.
The Committee is calling on market participants to adhere to fair competition principles and is cautioning against any artificial inflation of prices. It is important for gas stations to operate within a competitive and fair market environment in order to protect consumer rights and ensure transparency in the pricing of fuel.
