Authorities Seize 26 Alleged Matraimov Belongings in Kara-Suu Raid

Former Deputy Head of Kyrgyz Customs Service Faces Property Seizures and Legal Trouble

After a series of high-profile seizures of property allegedly belonging to former deputy head of the Customs Service Raiymbek Matraimov, the ex-official is facing legal trouble in Kyrgyzstan. According to reports, at least 26 properties said to belong to Matraimov have been seized in Kara-Suu, including the Ismail Ata mosque and teahouse, as well as various houses and land plots.

In addition to the seizures in Kara-Suu, Matraimov’s house in Osh city, along with the business center JAMBY, were sealed off by employees of the State Committee for National Security. Furthermore, the deputy head of the Municipal Property Department of the Osh City Hall revealed that the demolition of gates and fences at Matraimov’s residence had begun, citing violations in the construction which encroached upon municipal property.

The head of the State Committee for National Security, Kamchybek Tashiev, has announced that all property belonging to Matraimov will be confiscated in Osh region and throughout Kyrgyzstan. Tashiev also emphasized that the government is committed to eradicating the influence of Matraimov’s alleged clan, having already removed nearly 50 officials from various government agencies in Osh region.

Matraimov, who has been put on the wanted list by the State Committee for National Security, is suspected under Article 169 of the Kyrgyz Criminal Code. The charge against him relates to allegedly assisting in restricting the freedom of movement of a person by forcibly detaining him in the absence of signs of an official crime.

As the property seizures and legal action against him continue, the former customs official is under increasing pressure from Kyrgyz authorities.
