Strengthening Ties: Azerbaijani and Hungarian Defense Relations
On May 6, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, welcomed a delegation led by General Dr. Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the General Staff of the Hungarian Defence Forces. This visit, which was officially invited by Colonel General Karim Valiyev, Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff, aims to bolster military cooperation between the two nations.
Honoring Legacies
The Hungarian delegation’s visit began with a tribute to the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, and the renowned ophthalmologist and academician, Zarifa Aliyeva. The group laid wreaths at their graves in the Alley of Honor, honoring their significant contributions to Azerbaijani society. Following this, they visited Victory Park, where they paid respects at the Victory Monument.
A Warm Welcome
During the subsequent meeting at the Ministry of Defense, Minister Hasanov expressed his pleasure in hosting the Hungarian delegation, highlighting the strong military cooperation between Azerbaijan and Hungary. He acknowledged Hungary’s unwavering support across various levels, which he believes is pivotal for further strategic collaboration.
General Dr. Böröndi reciprocated the warm welcome, emphasizing the positive impact of such high-level visits on Azerbaijani-Hungarian relations built on mutual trust and friendship. He expressed hope for future discussions on military partnerships and related matters.
Future Prospects
The formal welcoming ceremony at the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army included the passing of the guard of honor and the performance of national anthems. General Böröndi also signed the Book of Honor, marking the significance of this diplomatic engagement.
Colonel General Karim Valiyev engaged with his Hungarian counterpart, discussing the ongoing state of military relations and the potential for future development. They exchanged insights on the importance of joint exercises and sharing expertise to enhance the professionalism of their servicemen.
