Azerbaijan and Vietnam Strengthen Ties Through Strategic Partnership
On May 7, a significant document exchange ceremony took place between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, attended by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam. This event marks a pivotal moment in the bilateral relations between the two countries, heralding a new era of cooperation.
A joint statement was adopted, formalizing the establishment of a strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Vietnam. This foundational document aims to enhance collaboration across various sectors, fostering mutual growth and development.
During the ceremony, several key agreements were signed:
Energy Cooperation:
- Azerbaijani Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Nguyen Hoang Long, exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement focuses on cooperation in the energy sector, underscoring the commitment of both nations to enhance energy security and sustainability.
Defense Collaboration:
- Azerbaijani Minister of Defense, Zakir Hasanov, and Vietnam’s Minister of National Defense, Phan Van Giang, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen defense ties, promoting security and stability in the region.
Legal Framework:
- Azerbaijani Minister of Justice, Farid Ahmadov, and Vietnam’s Minister of Justice, Nguyen Hai Ninh, exchanged a cooperation program for the period 2025-2027, aimed at enhancing legal collaboration between the two nations.
Economic Partnerships:
- A series of MoUs were signed to boost economic cooperation, including agreements between the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Petrovietnam, as well as between SOCAR Trading and Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical JSC.
Innovation and Technology:
- Agreements were also reached regarding collaboration in technology and innovation. Azerbaijani Minister of Digital Development, Rashad Nabiyev, and Vietnam’s Minister of Science and Technology, Nguyen Manh Hung, underscored the importance of synergy in technological advancements.
- Cultural Exchange:
- An MoU was signed between the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Vietnam to promote cultural cooperation, facilitating exchanges and joint cultural projects.
Other notable agreements included collaborations in archival work, media exchange between national news agencies, and the establishment of a Joint Business Council aimed at fostering small and medium enterprise development in both countries.
This ceremony not only symbolizes the growing partnership between Azerbaijan and Vietnam but also sets the stage for future cooperation across multiple sectors, paving the way for enhanced diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties.
