Azerbaijan Announces Violation of Ceasefire by Armenia
Armenia continues to violate ceasefire agreements in the region, as reported by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense. The recent incident occurred at 13:00 local time when Armenian Armed Forces opened fire from their positions towards the Azerbaijani army in the Mollabayramlı campus in Kalbajar province. In response to this violation, Azerbaijani troops retaliated by returning fire.
Yesterday, the Armenian Armed Forces once again targeted Azerbaijani army positions in the same location between 12:25 and 15:35 local time. Azerbaijan is calling for the European Union (EU) to refrain from biased statements that could undermine peace efforts in the region.
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Ayhan Hacızade, addressed the EU’s call to release “Armenian prisoners” and ensure their rights. Hacızade emphasized that Azerbaijan has treated all Armenian detainees in accordance with international conventions and standards. He mentioned that the International Committee of the Red Cross had regular meetings with the detainees while they were in Azerbaijan’s custody. However, some of these individuals were arrested by Armenian authorities after being transferred back to Armenia.
The investigation of war criminals, separatist leaders, and individuals of Armenian origin is ongoing in Azerbaijan. Hacızade stated that these arrests are based on evidence of serious crimes and have a legal basis without affecting the detainees’ rights.
Furthermore, Azerbaijan highlighted the disappearance of over 3,890 Azerbaijanis since the start of Armenia’s military aggression. Among them are soldiers, civilians, children, women, and elderly individuals. Azerbaijan expressed disappointment in the EU’s lack of concern for the rights of Azerbaijani immigrants who have been forcibly displaced for nearly 30 years.
At this critical moment, Azerbaijan is urging the EU to avoid biased statements that could hinder peace efforts in the region and support a fair resolution to the ongoing conflict.
