Azerbaijan Calls on Armenia to Take Steps to Open Communications

Azerbaijan Calls on Armenia to Fulfill Obligations for Opening Communications in the Region

In a recent statement, Aykhan Hajizada, the Spokesperson of Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, emphasized that if Armenia truly desires the opening of communications in the region, it must not evade its obligations. Practical steps need to be taken in accordance with the new regional realities to facilitate the opening of communications, as reported by the ministry.

Hajizada’s response came following an inquiry from local media regarding an article by the Prime Minister of Armenia on communications published in Armenpress news agency.

The spokesperson highlighted that Armenia, by occupying Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized sovereign territories for nearly 30 years and causing the blockade of Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, has not made a positive contribution to the negotiation process for the opening of communications in the aftermath of the 44-day Patriotic War.

Despite being aware of its written and signed obligations concerning the opening of communications connecting Azerbaijan’s western regions with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Armenia has failed to fulfill them.

Furthermore, Armenia’s proposals for convoluted and lengthy routes only serve to distract from the actual process and obligations at hand, according to Hajizada.

It is essential for Armenia to take concrete steps and adhere to its commitments to establish open and efficient communication channels in the region. Failure to do so could hinder progress and perpetuate the existing challenges and barriers.
