Azerbaijan-Greece Cooperation Crucial for Diversifying Europe’s Energy Routes
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Elnur Mammadov, highlighted the significance of Azerbaijan-Greece cooperation within the Southern Gas Corridor and the Greece-Bulgaria Gas Interconnector during an official reception in Baku commemorating Greece’s National Day.
Mammadov emphasized that the partnership between Azerbaijan and Greece has flourished across various sectors such as economy, energy, transport, science, education, culture, and tourism. He pointed out the regular productive meetings held between the two countries at high levels, including recent encounters between President Ilham Aliyev and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The deputy minister underscored that energy cooperation is a key aspect of the economic relationship, citing the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Partnership in the field of energy signed in Baku in 2022. The aim is to boost natural gas exports to Europe to at least 20 billion cubic meters annually by 2027.
Furthermore, Mammadov expressed mutual interest in enhancing trade, economic, and tourism ties, as well as expanding cooperation beyond the energy sector. He highlighted the importance of cultural exchanges, educational collaborations, and inter-city relations in fostering people-to-people connections between Azerbaijan and Greece.
Overall, the Azerbaijan-Greece partnership plays a crucial role in diversifying Europe’s energy routes and supply sources, underscoring the ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting mutual interests.
